Large Quantity of Cocaine seized at Vancouver Airport

Services Agency officers seized 50 km of cocaine in two overweight suitcases at the Vancouver International Airport, local media reported on Sunday.

Border Services spokeswoman Janis Fergusson said that the officers found the suitcases much heavier than usual during a tarmac examination, according to the report.

The officers found 45 bricks of cocaine inside the suitcases, carried on a flight from Mexico.

Fergusson said it was the largest cocaine bust in recent memory, and the drugs have been turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Border services officers made more than 2,200 drug seizures last year, including heroin, opium, cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy and steroids.
