Security card rebuff

PILOTS and aviation staff have been slow in applying for the Government's new security card, a parliamentary committee has heard.

The Aviation Security Identification Card was introduced on March 10, 2005. Anyone who worked in a secure area of an airport had to apply for the card to continue working.

About 150,000 people applied but Government Senator David Johnstone questioned how many of those cards had been issued.

He described the process of approving the cards as "administratively burdensome".
